Committee

Subject to the approval of the UEA-RA, the External Communications Committee will have members representative of all teaching levels in UCS as of October 8, 2007. New members are still welcome to apply.

The committee still needs a “liaison” at each UEA work site to communicate PR events in their buildings with preferably one week’s notice due to local media deadlines. Please email the person’s name to Carolyn Frischman at Carolyn.Frischman@UticaK12.org no later than this Friday, Oct. 12. After this date, if we have not received a name for your building, we will ask the head rep to serve in this capacity

Member Surveys

If you have not yet turned in surveys for every UEA member in your building, please get as many of these in as you can by this Wednesday, Oct. 10th. Send to the Utica-MEA office inter-school mail attn: Sharon Jones. Data is already being compiled, initially for the purpose of an “ABOUT THE UEA” flyer that will be distributed at the Oct. 14 5K Run/1 K Fitness Walk and to local media outlets.

Media Relations

The External Comm. Committee has made establishing relationships with local media sources a major priority the past month. David Kenewell and Carolyn Frischman had extensive conversations with Frank de Frank, Education Reporter for the Macomb Daily about the UEA’s new PR initiative. David and Frank have arranged to meet for lunch and conversation. Reporters from the Macomb Advisor/Source and C & G Newspapers have also been briefed about the UEA’s PR initiative and have agreed to announce/cover the 5K event on Oct. 14th. The Source ran an article about it in their October 7 edition on page A6.

UEA Logo and PR Apparel

Local vendor, EA Graphics, and the MEA print shop and their vendors have been utilized to produce the following items with the new UEA logo for distribution/sale to our members: t-shirts (free to reps and Bd. Members/$10 a piece to other members), buttons, lapel pins, water bottles for the 5K event, and a 7’ X 4’ banner. Please wear these items with pride in your buildings and out in the community! We are also asking reps and Bd. members to wear them frequently to work the next two weeks to advertise their availability to our members. Approximately 150 UEA t-shirts will be available at the 5K event for $10 a piece and order forms for additional t-shirts as well as other types of apparel will be sent to your buildings in approximately two weeks.
