David Kenewell

David Kenewell

President David Kenewell has been a vital part of Utica Community Schools and the Utica Education Association since 1969. A product of the Detroit Public School system, David attended Cooley High School. He went on the earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science as well as a Master of Arts degree in Social Studies Curriculum at Wayne State University. He joined the staff of Stevenson High School 41 years ago, and has dedicated his professional life in service to the students, staff, and union members of UCS.

David taught at Stevenson from 1969 to 2000. He then accepted the special assignment of Technology Trainer in Social Studies, and served in that capacity prior to his election as UEA President. David's committee work and years of distinguished service are exemplary:

  • Close Up Coordinator for both Stevenson and Macomb County
  • Amnesty International Co-Sponsor
  • State-wide Social Studies Committee
  • President of the Michigan Council for Social Studies

  • Bargaining Team (5 contracts - Chief Spokesman for 3 of the 5)
  • Central Curriculum Council Chair
  • Secondary Curriculum Council Chair
  • UEA President

David loves to spend time with his family - especially his grandchildren. He looks forward to relaxing at the family cottage in Grand Bend and having the opportunity to play golf and ride his BMW touring bike as often as possible. David's steadfast leadership and unwavering dedication to the UEA will once again guide us through the bargaining process successfully.
